ExSep mechanical pretreatment technology
Separation of suspended matter from water and wastewater before subsequent treatment stages.
The patented ExSep separator removes mechanical impurities from liquids with low specific energy consumption.
Applications
At municipal wastewater treatment facilities, ExSep can replace grit traps, grease traps and large settling tanks. In industrial wastewater treatment, it is used as a pretreatment stage.
Separation efficiency reaches up to 99% for organic and inorganic particles of 15 µm and larger. A scalable range of separator sizes is used for different treatment capacities.
Operating principle
Separation uses gravity and flow dynamics. Separated particles settle in the lower conical section, where the sludge is concentrated and discharged for further dewatering.
Integration into a treatment process
Removing solids before subsequent treatment stages reduces their load. In biological treatment, for example, this can reduce the oxygen demand for activated sludge aeration and lower energy and operating costs.
